Knights of Valour – Heavy Armour Jousting Tournament
In a time long ago a great queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine, devised a way to keep the troublesome knights of Europe from killing each other over petty arguments and challenges. Eleanor invited the knights to participate in a great tournament of martial games, the greatest of which was the mounted joust. Jousting is the hardest hitting sport ever conceived. Heavily armoured mounted knights are pitted against each other as in battle, with no shield for protection, attempting to ultimately unhorse their opponent in this magnificent display of skill, valour and horsemanship.
Hundreds of years later, the tradition carries on today...
Renowned for their exciting shows of horsemanship, bravery and chivalry, the Knights of Valour have been entertaining audiences for over a decade. The Knights will perform two action-packed shows per day (one heavy armour joust and one light) in a style worthy of Kings!
Show times will be posted closer to the event. Between shows, the Knights will meet with the public to talk about the history and chivalry of Knights. Their magnificent horses will be on view throughout the festival.
Plus Much More ….
The festival offers continuous entertainment outside of the Jousting Tournaments. Colourful medieval performers will present a variety of interactive shows each day. Comedians, dancers, talented buskers, a wizard and wandering minstrels will create music and laughter throughout the event, adding to the faire atmosphere. A Viking encampment, archery demonstrations and armoured and unarmoured combat performances are sure to keep the excitement level high. And last but not least, the Royal Court, including the King and Queen and their entourage, will be in attendance at a number of events throughout the festival.
Falconry shows featuring “Birds of Prey” will also be offered, with the birds on display between shows.
The Ottawa Medieval Sword Guild will once again be hosting a booth at the festival where they'll discuss and demonstrate the intricacies of 14th Century European martial arts to visitors of all ages. Once each day, OMSG scholars will put on a full-armoured demonstration of combat. For more information on the OMSG's activities, please check out their website at www.ottawasword.com.
Children of all ages can try their hand at one of several games throughout the festival including Jacob’s Ladder, a Maze, Catapult game, Turtle Race, Skittles and more.
